About the Council
for Public-Private Partnership
in Food Technology

Purpose

The Council was established in October 2020 through the participation of numerous stakeholders from industry, academia, and government. The Council’s purpose is to promote public-private partnerships that encourage the resolution of issues in collaborative areas and the development of new markets in order to secure a domestic technological base for emerging technologies that will help build a resource-recycling food supply system and realize a high food quality of life, which will contribute to the development of the food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries industries and strengthen food security.

Vision

We aim to foster Japanese foodtech businesses that will contribute to solving food and environmental issues in Japan and around the world, create new industries and develop of the Japanese economy.

  1. Sustainable food supply

    Today
    We are facing risks such as increased demand for food, environmental impact and rising raw material and labor costs.
    The future
    We will increase protein and other food sources while reducing the environmental impact on the earth.
  2. Productivity improvement

    Today
    It is necessary to increase productivity through smart systems due to the declining and aging population.
    The future
    AI and robot technologies will be used to eliminate overwork and labor shortages. We will create a sustainable food supply.
  3. A rich and healthy diet that meets the diverse needs of individuals

    Today
    There is a greater need for a variety of foods that cater to different tastes, nutritional balance, and allergy needs.
    The future
    We will use data to provide optimized meal experiences for individuals and achieve wellbeing through food.

Necessary initiatives

  1. Fostering players

    • Promote open innovation

      Create innovation through collaboration between startups, companies, academia, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, and other sectors.

    • Foster startups

      In the commercialization of foodtech, we will create an environment for appropriate funding and information disclosure.

  2. Market creation

    • Strategic rule making

      The government and private sector will work together to decide upon an international response policy for the development of rules necessary for commercialization.

    • Establish consumer understanding

      Gain consumer trust by ensuring the safety of new food with little consumption experience, proper labelling and communication of information to consumers.

The Council for Public-Private Partnership in Food Technology is involved in the following activities

  • Sharing information with members on trends and events related to foodtech in Japan and abroad, holding seminars, etc.
  • Publishing information from members at the general meeting and proposal/report meetings held about three times a year
  • Establishment and participation in working groups and community circles for specialized discussions
  • Promotion of business collaboration through matching and communication among members
